Dank der Unterstützung des IEEE 802.11n (Draft 2.0)-Standards werden Zonen mit geringer Funkabdeckung besser erschlossen. Der ZyXEL NWA-3166 ist nach dem neuesten IEEE 802.11n (Draft 2.0)-Standard zertifiziert. Zusätzlich kann er im 11a-Modus betrieben werden. Deshalb bietet der Access-Point einen hohen Investitionsschutz. Die Anwendungen sind vielseitig und reichen von VoIP-Telefonie und Hotspots bis hin zur Prozessautomation in der Industrie. Der NWA-3166 kann als «Standalone»-Access-Point sowie als Controller für andere Geräte der NWA-Serie eingesetzt werden. Unterstützt werden bis zu 24 gemanagete Access-Points (NWA-3160, NWA-35x0 und NWA-3166). Damit stellt dieses Modell eine skalierbare und kostengünstige Alternative zu traditionellen und teuren Controller-Lösungen dar.
